It’s February 8, and we’re just 228 days away from the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. This marks the first time the Games will ever be held outside of Europe, and the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington will play host to the event between September 23 and October 10. The World Equestrian Games will feature eight events, including Dressage, Driving, Eventing, Endurance, Reigning, Show-Jumping, Vaulting, and Para Dressage, the newest FEI Discipline. There will be a thousand competitors from more than fifty countries in attendance, and the ticket sales are expected to bring in $800,000 while the event as a whole will have an anticipated economic impact of $150 million for the area.

As a result, many permanent additions and upgrades have been made to the Kentucky Horse Park that will benefit the community both before and long after the Games. Major upgrades include a 6,000 seat climate-controlled indoor arena, a new 7,500 seat outdoor stadium, a vehicle entrance and improvements to roads, and pathways and visitor gathering points throughout the park. In addition to these permanent changes, a number of temporary additions are being designed as well.

Furthermore, numerous other activities will be held during the games, including the International Equestrian Expo. The expo, which is of particular interest to Equestrian Lakes, will be held in the downtown Lexington Convention center, and we will be in attendance handing out information to the hundreds of thousands of international equestrian enthusiasts. Meet the Willetts

Equestrian Lakes is delighted to welcome Mike and Audrey Willett to the development. Mike and Audrey had lived in Louisville most of their lives but moved to Shelby County six years ago. They were thinking that would be there last move until they drove by Equestrian Lakes and immediately fell in love with the development. They will be celebrating 28 years of marriage in March and have two children. Mike is a cable contractor for Insight Communications and Brighthouse in Indianapolis.
